Our Heritage and Beginning Stories
Heritage" implies the full range of our inherited traditions, monuments, objects, and culture. Most important, however, is the range of contemporary activities, meanings, and behaviours we draw from them.
Our Anishinabek People’s belief, as passed verbally, generation after generation, since time immemorial, is that we came from the blackness of space and fell through the sky and are the direct descendants of the one who is called The Girl Who Fell From the Sky.
As identified by the Greek philosopher Plato, oral education is the only accurate method of education. Our Native history recalls that we came from a distant world where women and grandmothers were respected leaders, teachers and mentors of our oral history.
